Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Residential Unit Director for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois. An ideal candidate is one that will support the values and vision of the agency and have passion and an ability to advocate and enable growth in our individuals. The Residential Unit Director will direct the day-to-day activities through administrative and programmatic staff that serve individuals with developmental disabilities. The Shapiro Center strives to provide equitable access to social/human services, supports, programs and resources to enhance the lives of all who we serve.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as the Residential Unit Director at the Shapiro Center.

  • Serves as full line supervisor.

  • Coordinates the residential program area with other facility and community programs that are attended by the individuals. 

  • Coordinates programmatic unit with other units.

  • Develops and implements training programs for assigned staff.

  • Serves on the facility executive council and other facility committees to determine facility policy and procedures.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college.

  • Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in the fields of health or human services.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Human Services or related field.

  • Three (3) years of professional experience working with residential treatment programs, services, policies and procedures.

  • Three (3) years of professional and/or managerial experience in a residential treatment facility.

  • Three (3) years of professional experience in developing strategic plans, long and short-term goals for a residential treatment program.

  • Three (3) years of professional supervisory experience assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and/or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff and approving time off.

  • Two (2) years professional experience developing and monitoring plans of corrective action.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience in the formulation and implementation of treatment programs and habilitation plans.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience organizing, administering and evaluating ongoing services in a multi-disciplinary operation.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to work on-call, after business hours, weekends and holidays.

  • Requires the ability to report to the facility to assist with emergency situations after business hours, weekend and holidays.

  • Requires the ability to serve as Administrator on Duty (AOD) on a rotation basis.

  • Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to the patient or others.

  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.

  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.

  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Term Appointment:
