Position Overview
Under direct supervision, performs routine work in operating a Department of Human Services, 24-hour, facility switchboard carrying a heavy traffic load; talks to individuals during the operation of the switchboard; serves as receptionist; receives and sorts facility mail; performs routine clerical tasks
Job Responsibilities
1. Performs routine work in operating a Department of Human services 24-hour, facility switchboard carrying a heavy traffic load.
2. Responds to and maintains records for emergency calls such as fire, medical, police etc. Follows facility policies and procedures ensuring that information is immediately communicated to the supervisor and facility personnel.
3. Serves as receptionist.
4. Receives and sorts facility mail. Arranges for the distribution or pick-ups of mail/parcels and similar items.
5. Performs routine clerical tasks involving the operation of simple manual or automated office equipment. Maintains records of facility key distribution, facility vehicle usage, pagers, walkie-talkies, and cell phone distribution.
6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school.
Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Requires working knowledge of switchboard operations.
- Requires working knowledge of telephone etiquette.
- Requires elementary knowledge of public relations.
- Requires the ability to effectively communicate with the public and on a one-to-one basis.
- Requires ability to operate in an independent manner.
- Requires ability to remember accurately, names and locations of personnel in the agency.
- Requires ability to effectively work with ambiguity or unclear communication in conversations with the public.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related Policies and guidance.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
Work Hours: 2:30 pm - 10:30 pm Rotating days off; 1 weekend off a month.
