SITE TECHNICIAN II (UMP)

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Site Technician II at Big River State Forest for The Office of Land Management. This position will perform routine grounds maintenance and janitorial duties, including plowing snow, plumbing repairs, HVAC maintenance, use and maintenance of a variety of power tools and testing equipment.  Big River State Forest in western Illinois’ Henderson County is 8 miles north of Oquawka on the Oquawka-Keithsburg blacktop. The forest is managed primarily to demonstrate sound forestry practices, with demonstrations and talks on these practices available to interested groups. We welcome all interested candidates to apply.

Essential Functions

• Under direct supervision, regularly performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks in maintenance and operation projects at Big River, Delabar, Henderson County Conservation Area, Henderson Creek Access Area, and Crosses Corner Access Area.
• Operates tractors, farming machinery, trucks, tree spades, stump cutters and, ATV, and snowmobiles with hydraulics to perform maintenance.
• Assists with maintenance of site buildings and grounds.
• Assist with safety and security of the sites.
• Participates in the operation of the site programs.
• Provides leadership and direction to seasonal employees, volunteers, and other staff.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
• Two (2) years of experience following written and oral instructions.
• One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.
• One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation.
• One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping.

• Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
• Requires Valid Class A Illinois Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brakes.
• Ability to obtain pesticide operator’s license within 6 months of employment.

• Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds.
• Ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
• Ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
• Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
