Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs is seeking a Health Information Administrator for the LaSalle Veterans’ Home. This position is under administrative direction, serving as the Director of the Illinois Veterans' Home Health Information Program and providing professional direction to the facility's health information staff. This incumbent will manage the processing of patient health information for submissions, code resident diagnoses assigned by physicians using ICD-10CM classification system. Job Responsibilities
1. 25% Under general supervision, serves as the Director of the Illinois Veterans' Home-LaSalle Health Information Program
2. 20% Manages the processing of patient admission information for submission to surrounding Veterans Affairs Medical Center
3. 10% Codes resident diagnoses assigned by physicians using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) 10CM classification system.
4. 10% Serves as the facility's Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) Privacy Officer.
5. 10% Serves as a full line supervisor.
6. 10% Assists medical and clinical staff with research projects.
7. 5% Serves as a member on various committees.
8. 5% Maintains inventory for the Health Information Program
9. 5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college and certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). Requires one (1) year of professional experience in a health information records facility.
OR
2. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of high school, completion of an approved medical records training program plus certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). Requires five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as an RHIT in management of a medical records program.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
1. Two (2) years of experience utilizing medical and anatomical terminology.
2. Two (2) years of experience utilizing medical, psychological, and psychiatric terminology.
3. Two (2) years of experience abstracting, analyzing, and interpreting health information records.
4. Two (2) years’ experience exercising independent judgement in developing and evaluating new and revised methods, procedures, and performance standards and interpreting agency policies and procedures.
5. Extensive knowledge of federal and state statutes regarding confidentiality and release of information.
6. Extensive knowledge of medical jurisprudence and state laws governing use of health information records in court actions.
Conditions of Employment
1. Requires the ability to pass a drug screen and physical.
2. Requires the ability to pass a background check.
3. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
4. Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
5. Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
6. Requires ability to travel in the performance of job duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
7. Requires use of agency-supplied equipment (mobile phone, laptop, etc.).
8. Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday
