Position Overview

The Storekeeper III position is located at our Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle and is responsible for management of the general stores area. The ideal candidate will be able to work closely with department managers and staff in supplying necessary inventory and stock for all departments. 

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate and supervises all operating phases of the General Store: General, Mechanical, Medical, and Food warehouses.
  • Serves as lead worker on assigned shift in assigned warehouse.
  • Participates and assists with storekeeper duties in assigned warehouse(s).
  • Supervises periodic physical inventories tracking, balances result against perpetual inventory records and accounts for variances.
  • Prepares annual, semi-annual, quarterly, and special requisitions and sub-orders for contract items for review and approval.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years high school.
  • Requires two (2) years supervisory experience in the keeping of stores and stores records.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience making inspections for quality of goods against purchase orders and specifications.
  • One (1) year experience maintaining accurate counts of items delivered and disseminated.
  • Extensive knowledge of storekeeping and warehousing methods and procedures in the receipt, storage, and shipment of a variety of goods.
  • Extensive knowledge of purchasing and requisitioning procedures and uses of grading for different types of merchandise.
  • Ability to supervise and instruct other workers.
  • Working knowledge of reconciling various inventory records.
  • Ability to access various computer software packages to maintain inventory records.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to pass a background check.
  • Requires the ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.
  • Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
  • Requires the ability to stand for the duration of the shift, aside from official breaks and lunch period.
  • Requires use of agency-supplied equipment (mobile phone, laptop, etc.).
  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver's license.
  • This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
