Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Site Technician II at Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site for The Office of Land Management. This position will perform routine grounds maintenance and janitorial duties, including plowing snow, plumbing repairs, HVAC maintenance, will use manual or automated yard equipment, including but not limited to tractors, bat wing mowers, front end loaders, dump trucks, snowplows, bulldozers, backhoes, tree spades, road graders, farming machinery of 80 hp or greater. Today Lincoln Log Cabin is an 86-acre historic site that is owned and operated by the State of Illinois, managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Division of Historic Sites. The site includes an accurate reproduction of the Lincolns' two-room cabin that was reconstructed on the original cabin site in 1935-1936 as a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) project. The National Park Service oversaw the creation of Lincoln Log Cabin State Park with CCC labor. The CCC camp, Camp Shiloh, was located within the park's boundaries and its enrollees were WWI veterans. Essential Functions
- Under direct supervision, performs semi-skilled work by performing a range of duties associated with various building trades and historic skilled crafts, including but not limited to carpentry, electrical, painting, tree trimming and removal.
- Performs all types of grounds maintenance; mows, trims, plants, rakes weeds, applies pesticides and herbicides.
- Performs a variety of tasks of a semi-skilled nature requiring the normal use of tools and mechanical aptitude.
- Performs janitorial duties.
- Provides support to the interpretive programs of the site.
- Assists in implementing the safety and security programs at the site.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
- Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions.
- Two (2) years of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.

OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.
