Position Overview:

The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking an individual to serve as the Account Technician I at the Illinois Youth Center in Lincoln. The incumbent in this role will serve as the facility's Payroll Clerk, responsible for processing, recording, and maintaining all payroll-related transactions.  The incumbent will receive, verify, and process a variety of financial documents to ensure accurate and timely payment of obligations. The incumbent will also assist with posting receipts into the SAP Accounting System.  IDJJ encourages all interested and qualified individuals to apply!

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains and oversees the Youth Center’s general accounting records, including posting all financial transactions to the Budget Ledger and Locally Held Funds, and managing detailed books for locally held accounts.
  • Serves as the facility’s Payroll Clerk, responsible for processing, recording, and maintaining all payroll-related transactions to ensure accurate and timely employee compensation.
  • Receives, verifies, and processes a variety of financial documents to ensure accurate and timely payment of obligations, including vouchers, vendor invoices, purchase requests, and receiving reports.
  • Assists with posting receipts into the SAP Accounting System and monitors receivables and inventory.
  • Serves in a back-up capacity to the Timekeeper by receiving, reviewing, and maintaining facility time and attendance records; reconciling timesheets with benefit documentation; monitoring compliance with benefit time rules; and providing timely payroll support and communication to employees, supervisors, and management.
  • Performs other duties required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and completion of an approved training course or three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combination of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to certificate of proficiency in lieu of the state requirement for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance):

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience processing timekeeping in a congregate care, correctional, or similar environment with varying shifts.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience reconciling timekeeping reports and researching errors.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience performing data entry.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience meeting deadlines in a time sensitive environment.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience serving as a liaison or point of contact in a professional setting.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Requires the ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.

The department provides extensive services to young people through a developmental, treatment-focused model of care that builds youth resiliency, engages families, and promotes community safety at the five youth facilities it operates across the state. IDJJ serves and houses approximately 150 youth and is responsible for approximately 500 youth on Aftercare in various Illinois’ communities.
