Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for an Account Technician II. The successful candidate will perform technical accounting work in maintaining a complex, complete set of general account books which include journals, registers, ledgers and another financial records utilizing SAP. Additionally, this position will perform general clerical work related to Illinois Correctional Industries procurement and ordering functions. Job Responsibilities
- Performs technical accounting work utilizing Word, Excel, and Access including maintaining a complex, complete set of general account books and for the Warehouse Operations, the preparation of various financial documents, posting financial information to journals, registers and accounting software programs, budget monitoring, accounts payable, customer invoicing, inventory, reconciliations, and preparation of month end, quarterly, and year end reports.
- Prepares obligating documents for approval for goods and services needed.
- Utilizes and inputs data into System Applications and Products in Data Processing System (SAP) for order fulfillment and inventory management.
- Enters quantities and costing of inventory received from ICI shops in SAP.
- Serves as timekeeper for the office.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college, and one (1) year of technical accounting experience, or four (4) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- Prefers at least one (1) year of accounting experience.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook and/or similar type of computer software.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience evaluating accounting problems such as rectifying discrepancies between financial system reports and develop a plan to resolve.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience applying accounting principles to the process of purchasing and/or contract principles.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience managing multiple projects with strict deadlines in a busy warehouse or office that purchases goods for a large organization and/or similar type of work environment.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in government or private sector procurement.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience working with a web-based purchasing system such as SAP and/or similar type of purchasing system.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience talking with vendors on the phone.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
