Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Site Technician II at Giant City State Park for The Office of Land Management. This position will operate and maintain heavy equipment such as trucks and trailers over 26,000 lbs, requiring Class A CDL license; operate skid steer style loader with attachments, including forestry cutter unit, snow blade and excavator buckets, compact excavator, tractors with rotary mowers & field equipment, water tower pump, sewage lagoon aerators and generators; repair, paint, maintain, and build picnic tables, signs, booths, pedestrian bridges throughout the campsites, shelters, and trails; maintain grounds, roadways, trails, sidewalks and wildlife habitat of the park, stables, and lodge areas; make minor repairs to plumbing/electrical/heating/air conditioning equipment; build concrete forms for fire pads, sidewalk repair and patches roads; pour concrete to support stoves and grills at the picnic sites. Essential Functions
- Under general direction, performs semi-skilled maintenance activities associated with the operation and maintenance programs at Giant City State Park.
- Assists with the upkeep of the outdoor facilities in the park.
- Participates in landscaping maintenance throughout the park.
- Assists in assuring the safety and security of the site and visiting public.
- Performs routine tasks related to the outdoor recreation programs.
- Assists, engages, and leads routine site operations and work activities of conservation workers, volunteers, Department of Correction workers.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
- One (1) year of experience following written and oral instructions.
- One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.
- One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation.
- One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping.

- Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.

Office of Land Management

The Historic Sites Division of the Office of Land Management oversees 57 Historic Sites, Monuments, and Memorials. OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.
