Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 at Giant City State Park. This position will perform operation and maintenance of the grounds, facilities, and equipment using trucks and trailers over 26,000 lbs requiring a Class A CDL license, perform minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning equipment; clean restrooms, shower houses, hunter check stations and other buildings on the property. On a seasonal basis provide leadership and direction to Dept. of Correction workers, volunteers and seasonal workers. Giant City State Park is a popular campground retreat named for the unique impressions made by its massive sandstone structures and it's breathtaking natural landscape. Essential Functions
- Under general direction, performs semi-skilled maintenance activities associated with the operation and maintenance programs at Giant City State Park.
- Assists with the upkeep of the outdoor facilities in the park.
- Participates in landscaping maintenance throughout the park.
- Assists in assuring the safety and security of the site and visiting public.
- Performs routine tasks related to the outdoor recreation programs.
- Assists, engages, and leads routine site operations and work activities of conservation workers, volunteers, Department of Correction workers.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated
above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
- One (1) year of experience following written and oral instructions.
- One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.
- One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation.
- One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping.

The Historic Sites Division of the Office of Land Management oversees 57 Historic Sites, Monuments, and Memorials. OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.
