Job Responsibilities

  • Performs technical accounting work in maintaining the book for the Manteno Veterans Home.
  • Records all stores receiving reports and issues to general ledger accounts, with subsidiary ledgers of the associated store and verifies the balance with controlling accounts each month.
  • Prepares financial statements and reports for income and expenses, and equipment purchased, monthly including reports on the total balance of general ledger, and reports on appropriation for encumbrances against state appropriation funds. 
  • Maintains cash balance on Home Funds and prepares reports of same as required or assigned.
  • Assists Home fiscal staff in maintaining a complex accounting system involving statewide funds and grants.
  • Periodically assists with inventory counting in stores and forward areas.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned within the realm of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and completion of an approved training course OR three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the stated requirements of the classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year experience of office methods and procedures.
  • One (1) year experience of principles and function of standard office accounting machines and equipment. 
  • Working knowledge of accounting techniques.
  • Working knowledge of state or non-state accounting procedures. 

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to pass a background.
  • Requires the ability to pass a drug screen and physical.
  • Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
  • Requires use of agency-supplied equipment (mobile phone, laptop, etc.).
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
