Essential Functions

  • Supervises staff as a full line supervisor.
  • Directs the operation of the Veterans' Service Officers engaged in assisting veterans, their spouses/dependents and survivors in obtaining any federal, state, or local benefits for which they are eligible.
  • Develops goals and objectives as a part of the overall direction for the Department's mission statement.
  • Represents the Governor and/or-Director at veteran related activities conducted in the public forum.
  • Meets with the Director and Assistant Director, as a member of the Policy Committee, to address issues, concerns and problems concerning benefits and operations.
  • Reviews complex veterans' claims for benefits that are being adjudicated in administrative proceedings before the United States Veterans' Administration.
  • Works with community, local and state government groups to provide advice and consultation on developing or ongoing operations of service delivery systems for veterans.
  • Accountable for state property within assigned region as determined by agencies property control policy.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in business or public administration.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.

Preferred Qualifiactions

  • One (1) year of experience supervising and coordinating the efforts of a geographically dispersed staff.
  • Extensive knowledge of Agency policy and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of benefits available to veterans and their dependents as well as the federal and state laws and regulations governing their administration.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires honorable discharge from service in the Armed Services of the United States during a recognized time of hostilities.
  • Requires current or previous accreditation from the United States Department of Veterans' Affairs General Counsel.
  • Requires Training, Responsibility, Involvement and Preparation (TRIP) certification and maintenance throughout employment.
  • Must be able to obtain a PIV Card within the first six months and maintain it throughout your tenure.
  • Acquire and maintain VBMS access.
  • Requires use of agency-supplied material/equipment (i.e., cellphone, computer equipment, etc.).
  • Requires the ability to pass a background check.
  • Must have a valid driver license and be available to drive to remote locations using an agency supplied vehicle.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
