Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision at Marseilles Training Site, performs a variety of tasks requiring knowledge of mechanical systems to include the installation, maintenance and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment at Marseilles Training Site and other various locations throughout the state. 

1.    Makes major and minor repairs to refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and associated building management controls system equipment in accordance with operations and maintenance manuals.

equipment, such as condensers, chillers, air handlers, variable air volume devices, heat pumps,
exhaust fans, natural gas and propane fired furnaces and boilers, walk-in coolers/freezers, etc.
2.    Inspects and performs reoccurring maintenance on all equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and the preventative maintenance schedule; lubricates, cleans equipment, and
changes filters as needed Responds to emergency calls in a timely manner. Complete expedient
repairs to minimize damage to government property.
3.    Prepares and submits requisitions for supplies, equipment, and tools necessary in the daily operation of all mechanical equipment.
4.    Completes work orders accurately and in a timely fashion, including all paperwork and/or associated data entry. Assists in the review of drawings, maps, manuals, and warranties on all new and existing refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. Prepares written and oral reports on the equipment to the Facilities Management Branch Chief.

5. Assists, instructs and monitor skilled and unskilled maintenance workers to assist with refrigeration and air conditioning systems repairs.

6.  Performs additional duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably associated within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
  • Requires an associate degree or the successful completion of an approved training program in refrigeration and air conditioning.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
  • Requires the successful completion of an approved training program in refrigeration and air conditioning. 
  • Prefers current CFC/HCFC certification.
  • Requires working knowledge of the tools, methods, and standards of the trade.
  • Requires the ability to instruct and direct unskilled workers.
  • Requires the ability to read, interpret and work from drawings and blueprints.
  • Requires ability to lift and carry 80 pounds, i.e., heavy boxes, supplies, and equipment.
  • Requires ability to move heavy furniture and equipment;
  • Requires being on feet and/or stooping for long periods of time;
  • Requires ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Requires ability to withstand extreme temperature changes.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires possession of appropriate valid driver's license pertaining to equipment operated. 
  • Requires ability to travel.
