Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Superintendent II at Hamilton County State Fish & Wildlife Area for The Office of Land Management. This position will: operate and maintain heavy equipment such as trucks and trailers in excess of 26,001 pounds with Air Brakes hauling equipment throughout the region when needed; direct and participate in maintenance of site operations while providing guidance and training to staff to meet daily operating needs; prepare, submit, and monitor operating capital improvement budgets and annual plans of work; plan and promote site activities and programs, and serve as the Department's representative for various meetings. Hamilton County State Fish and Wildlife Area, also known as Dolan Lake, is located about 8 miles southeast of McLeansboro off Route 14. It is the perfect place to enjoy nature and the outdoors camping, fishing, horseback riding and hiking. Essential Functions

  • Under direction, manages the operation of Hamilton County Conservation Area, serves as full- line supervisor.
  • Directs and participates in the preparation/maintenance of site operations and financial records/reports.
  • Directs and participates in the maintenance of site grounds, facilities, and equipment.
  • Plans, coordinates, and implements site audit activities and programs compatible with the natural resource base.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the media and interested groups or individuals.
  • Explains agency policies, rules, and regulations to site visitors and assures compliance with the same.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably with the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation administration, or natural resource area administration, or in museum administration, history, American studies, or archeology.
  • Requires three years of supervisory experience affording training in various facets of managing an outdoor recreational park or natural public area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of professional work experience in the principles and practices of site administration, conservation, structural grounds maintenance, public relations, and personnel administration.
  • Two (2) years of professional work experience in assigning and supervising the work of assistants and staff members.
  • Two (2) years of professional work experience in applying appropriate levels of knowledge in problem solving situations encountered in the performance of duties and responsibilities.
  • Two (2) year of professional work experience in evaluating program effectiveness and making recommendations on policies and procedures.
  • Two (2) years of professional work experience in expressing ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Charged with preserving, protecting, and promoting Illinois' natural resources, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) employees oversee water, wildlife, wetlands and oil wells, parks, historic sites - and everything in between. OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.
