Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as a Human Resources Associate to work at Menard Correctional Center in the Human Resources Department. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, task oriented, has excellent organizational skills, shows great attention to detail, and is a team player with strong interpersonal skills. This position performs highly confidential, sensitive, paraprofessional duties in the daily operation of the Personnel Office. Responsibilities include preparing and submitting personnel transactions and documents, answering inquiries, interpreting labor contracts, Personnel Rules, Pay Plan, other State/Agency rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Duties also include keyboarding correspondence, maintaining confidential personnel files, initiating employment/personnel references, verifying documentation for leaves, and researching information for disciplinary/grievance hearings. Essential Functions
- Performs specialized paraprofessional human resources duties.
- Interprets labor contracts, Personnel Rules, Pay Plan, other State Agency rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to make decisions consistent with standard methods.
- Serves as Worker’s Compensation Coordinator for the facility.
- Assists with adherence to time limits regarding preparation and submission of transactions and documents requiring disciplinary action.
- Monitors and maintains human resources documentation.
- Serves as backup Group Insurance Preparer.
- Provides Payroll and Timekeeping with transactions to complete assignments.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college or satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
- Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 30 words per minute.
Preferred Qualification
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in a Human Resources Office.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience gathering data and formulating reports.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience interpreting human resources rules, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience handling confidential information/documents and following confidential guidelines and procedures.

Prefers at least one (1) year of experience maintaining lists of information and tracking information for future use.

Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with insurance and benefit programs.

Prefers at least one (1) year of experience utilizing a computer with Microsoft Suite or similar programs.
Condition of Employment
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
