Position Overview

Do you love working with the public and making dreams come true? The Illinois Lottery is hiring an Office Associate to work in the Springfield Check Writing and Claims Office. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment, pay close attention to detail, and provide excellent customer service to Lottery players. Essential Functions

  • Prepares, verifies, enters, and edits instant, online, and eclaims, for payment to Lottery winners.
  • Explains and interprets rules, regulations and procedures to winners, non-winners, and the public.
  • Answers incoming telephone calls from the public, financial institutions, Lottery winners and players, officials, Lottery retailers and others regarding lottery tickets, validations, and check writing activities, or directs them to other professional staff if of a complex nature.
  • Performs a variety of complex clerical duties.
  • Maintains logs and records of daily activities, validated winners, check writing reports, etc.
  • Receives, opens, and distributes all incoming mail, keeping the Claims Manager apprised of any correspondence which requires immediate attention.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires two (2) years of office experience.
  • Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 45 WPM.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers two (2) years of experience utilizing office practices, procedures, and programs.
  • Prefers ability to prepare written communication utilizing proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Prefers ability to perform basic mathematics.
  • Prefers ability to learn basic agency programs, rules and regulations.
  • Prefers ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Prefers ability to operate commonly used office equipment and perform routine maintenance.
  • Prefers ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Prefers ability to communicate with a wide variety of people with different backgrounds and ethnicities.
  • Prefers basic level proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

 

 

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver's license.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404, 1567 (c)). Medium work involves lifting not more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing 25 pounds.
