Position Overview
This position is accountable for researching, collecting, analyzing, and maintaining data files for the Surveys Unit. Additionally, this position provides computer computations and uses the electronic surveying equipment to electronically record, resolve, and transmit field survey data as well as analyze, edit, and organize survey information for use by district personnel in the preparation of highway plans and land acquisition plats for the construction of highway facility improvements.

Essential Functions
- Maintains a complete, concise log of surveys and survey status, and all survey records involving recorded land monuments.
- Provides research information and detailed sketches as needed by other design personnel.
- Provides computerized survey information in a timely manner to enable design squads, survey crews, and the Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) Unit to meet scheduled completion dates. Ensures that all information provided is accurate and consistent with user needs.
- Trains personnel on the use of survey equipment and data collection, while developing and testing new procedures for increased production.
- Prepares documents for monitoring progress and status of each survey project.
- Collects and processes accurate and timely land survey data through the use of electronic surveying instruments and CADD software.
- Locates survey data necessary for computation and establishment of new alignments in the field.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current registration as a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Illinois.
- Four years of experience in the practice of land surveying.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Microstation, Geopak, V8i Select Series 4, or OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition, Trimble RealWorks, or Trimble Business Center.
- Knowledge of the use of GPS, Robotic total stations, Digital Levels, Terrestrial LIDAR Scanners and point cloud data registration and processing.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage data and communicate effectively with survey crew members.
