Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Unit Director for the Ludeman Developmental Center located in Park Forest, Illinois. An ideal candidate will support the values and vision of the agency and have a passion and ability to advocate and enable growth in our individuals. The Unit Director will administer the operations of a residential program for individuals with developmental disabilities and monitor individual’s habilitation/treatment services being provided by community agencies, schools and workshops. The Ludeman Developmental Center strives to provide equitable access to social/human services, supports, programs and resources to enhance the lives of all who we serve.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Serves as Unit Director for the Ludeman Developmental Center.
  2. Directs professional and non-professional unit staff in formulating and implementing programs and habilitation/treatment plans for individuals served.
  3. Serves as full-line supervisor.
  4. Coordinates unit programs with other units.
  5. Develops and implements unit training programs.
  6. Attends Executive Committee meetings to determine unit and Center policy and procedures.
  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college.
  2. Requires four (4) years progressively responsible administrative experience in the fields of health or human services.  

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Three (3) years of professional experience working with residential treatment programs, services, policies and procedures. 
  2. Three (3) years of professional and/or managerial experience in a residential treatment facility. 
  3. Three (3) years of professional experience developing strategic plans, long and short-term goals for a residential treatment program. 
  4. Three (3) years of professional supervisory experience, assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and/or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff and approving time off. 
  5. Two (2) years of professional experience developing and monitoring plans of corrective action. 
  6. Two (2) years of professional experience in the formulation and implementation of treatment programs and habilitation plans.
  7. One (1) year of basic proficiency in the use of computer systems.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  2. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
  3. Requires the ability to serve on-call as Administrator on Duty (AOD) on a rotation basis.
  4. Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekend and holidays. 
  5. Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  6. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computer systems.
  7. Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
