Position Statement

The Office of Land Management is seeking to hire a Site Technician 2 in the Region 4 area at Beaver Dam State Park. The individual in this position will work in an outdoor environment daily. The ideal candidate should have experience and knowledge of operating and maintaining a variety of tools and heavy equipment to use and repair projects throughout the park. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply. 


The Office of Land Management (OLM) oversees nearly 400 individual parcels a/ land and Institutes a wide variety of programs and activities advocating outdoor recreation through sustainable use, conservation and preservation. The Historic Sites Division of the Office of Land Management oversees over 57 Historic Sites, Monuments, and Memorials. OLM facilitates activities from small group Interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping. 

Job Responsibilities

1.    Performs semi-skilled work and travels in the maintenance to vehicles and equipment for the operation of Beaver Dam State Park:

  • Completes tasks and uses welding equipment and cutting torch for engine overhaul and replaces exhaust systems.
  • Performs maintenance to plumbing, heating, air conditioning equipment and electrical system such as repair to water lines.
  • Performs routine maintenance to park vehicles, mowers, tractors, etc. such as changing oil, fluids, filters, spark plugs, belts and washes vehicles.
  • Repairs broken insultation throughout the site.
  • Assures buildings and gates are locked nightly.

 

2.  Maintains tree removal through the Region 4 parks:

  • Participates in and provides on-the-job training, leadership and direction to seasonal staff in groundwork of the park.
  • Utilizes mowers, riding mowers, bushhogs and chain saws for grass cutting and clearance of weeds and brush.
  • Plants grass, trees and shrubs.
  • Applies pesticides/herbicides and chemicals for vegetation control.
  • Picks up litter and hauls trash for the park.
  • Plows snow and patches roads where needed.
  • Applies pesticides and herbicides.
  • Maintains and repairs vehicles and equipment needed throughout the park.

 

3.    Operates, monitors and repairs site equipment and outdoor facilities:

  • Operates equipment such as trucks, tractors, stump cutters, etc. associated with maintenance, renovation, construction and improvement projects to the site's grounds, trails, and roads.
  • Inspects public use areas for health and safety hazards.
  • Repairs tables, stoves, grills and restrooms throughout the sites.
  • Reroofs buildings and picnic shelters.
  • Patches roads throughout the park.
  • Makes, installs and maintains signs and builds forms from concrete.
  • Works on improvements of picnic areas.
  • Plows and shovels snow.

 

4.    Maintains building interiors:

  • Sweeps, mops and waxes floors.
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms and fixtures.
  • Dusts and cleans furniture.
  • Utilizes a high-pressure washer in the shower buildings to clean and disinfect
  • Washes windows.

 

5.    Engages in camper activities seasonally:

  • Informs visitors and campers of program opportunities and rules and regulations throughout the park.
  • Contacts the appropriate authority in the event of an emergency or disturbance.
  • Sells camping permits, hunting/fishing licenses and collects fees.
  • Patrols campgrounds.
  • Provides any additional information requested to all park users.

 

6.    Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of a the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two year's maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing;
  • Requires ability follow written and oral instructions;
  • Reqiures ability to inform visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations;
  • Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year round basis;
  • Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds;
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads which may exceed sixty (60) pounds;
  • Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
