Essential Functions
- Operate state issued vehicles, to escort and transport patients to different locations of the facility and appointments in the community.
- Performs fire safety and protection services at the Veterans Home by patrolling grounds and buildings to observe for security breaches and unsafe conditions.
- Assists Veterans Home staff with management of unruly individuals. Participates in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training for the non-violent physical control of combative patients.
- Interviews witnesses regarding complaints and prepare/submit written reports to investigator. Assists law enforcement and other state investigative agencies/entities/bodies with investigations of alleged events.
- Provides guidance and training to team members to acquaint them with policies and procedures of the department.
- Enforces vehicle speed, parking regulations and other traffic controls at the facility.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required that are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
- Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the stated requirements of this classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience working with security requirements and regulations for a public or private organization.
- Two (2) years of experience working with emergency response procedures including fire safety and controls for a public or private organization.
- Two (2) years of experience in the use of security enforcement practices and techniques.
- Two (2) years of experience providing initial responses to security breaches and safety hazards.
- Two (2) years of experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
- One (1) year of basic proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office with basic computer skills.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to pass a background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.
- Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
- Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
- Requires use of agency-supplied equipment (mobile phone, laptop, etc.).
- Requires ability to stand for the duration of the shift, aside from official breaks and lunch period.
- Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
- This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- On-call and overtime are a condition of employment, and you may be required to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime, and may be required to work alternating weekends.
