Job Responsibilities

1. Performs a variety of beginning level practical nursing functions for physically, mentally ill or intellectually disabled geriatric patients in an assigned nursing unit and shift

  • Carries out assigned nursing procedures

  • Administers medication, injections, and treatments

  • Takes and records temperatures, pulses, respiration, and blood pressures

  • Applies and changes simple bandages and monitors IV's

2. Observes, records, and reports to physicians, registered nurses, or the supervising nurse, the signs, symptoms, reactions and changes in condition of patients

3. Provides for emotionally and physical comfort and security of residents assists residents with activities of daily living with special attention to areas bearing therapeutic significance

4. Assists in maintaining supplies and in keeping working and living areas in good order

5. Serves as a member of a nursing care and treatment team

6. Provides guidance to Veterans' Nursing Assistant - Certified, relative to nursing techniques

7. Follows and supports the philosophy, objectives, policies and standards of nursing service and the facility

8. Responds to calls in a crisis

9. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

1. Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of Illinois

2. This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title

Conditions of Employment

1. Must pass a background check

2. Must pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical

3. Must meet the agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance

4. Able to bend, stoop, twist, stand and walk for protracted periods of time, use fine and gross hand manipulation

5. Able to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds

6. Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be required to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime
