Job Responsibilities

 

1.  Independently performs a variety of skilled practical nursing functions for physically ill, disabled, or geriatric residents in an assigned nursing unit and shift

  • Carries out assigned nursing policies and procedures
  • Administers medication, injections, and treatments
  • Takes and records temperatures, pulses, respirations, oxygen saturation, and blood pressures
  • Applies and changes dressings, performs catheterizations, dressing changes, and monitors IV’s
  • Records the administration of medications and treatments
  • Prepares patient progress notes, reports, charts, and records which are descriptive of the patient’s condition.

2.  Observes, records and reports to physicians, registered nurses, or the supervisory nurse the symptoms, reactions, and changes in residents’ conditions

  • Serves as a preceptor to orient new nursing staff to the unit’s policies, procedures, routine, and tasks
  • Participates in care plan meetings

3.  Provides for the emotional and physical comfort and security of residents

  • Assists other staff with activities of daily living for residents
  • Instructs residents in the development of self-help skills to the extent they are capable
  • Ambulates, moves, and transports residents in beds, wheelchairs, stretchers, and lifts using proper lifting techniques

4.  Assists in maintaining working and living areas and ensures supplies are in good order

5.  Assists in preparing guidance to nursing assistants relative to nursing techniques.

6.  Performs selected nursing functions in situations which do not require the specialized knowledge and skill of a registered nurse

  • Adheres to the philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards of nursing service and of the facility

7.  Performs other duties as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

 

1. Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of Illinois

2. One (1) year of practical nursing experience

3. This class is included in the Upward Mobility Program credential title

Conditions of Employment

 

1. Must pass a background check

2. Must pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical

3. Must meet all agency vaccine/health related policies and guidance

4. Able to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds

5. Able to bend, stoop, twist, stand and walk for protracted periods of time, use fine and gross hand manipulation

6. Overtime is a condition of employment, and you must be able to work overtime, including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime
