Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Site Technician II at Ramsey Lake State Park. This position will: operate trucks, tractors, and other heavy equipment such as agricultural equipment, bucket trucks, backhoes, tree spades, bushhogs, and end loaders; build concrete forms; makes basic electrical repairs to include changing breakers, replacing switches, and other minor repairs; reroof buildings; construct outbuildings, docks, shelters, and benches; route, construct, install, and maintain signs; perform minor plumbing and HVAC to plumbing, heating, and air conditioning equipment and electrical systems; replace thermal couplings on furnaces; re-sweat fittings on copper tubing and soldering; collect and dispose of trash and litter. Ramsey Lake State Park visitors enjoy picturesque woods, secluded picnic areas, and excellent fishing and hunting opportunities. Essential Functions
- Under direct supervision, performs semi-skilled tasks associated with the operation, improvement, and maintenance of Ramsey Lake State Park and Coffeen Lake as assigned.
- Maintains site vehicles and equipment.
- Participates in grounds maintenance and improvements.
- Participates in site operations including camping and hunting programs.
- Assists in implementing safety and security at the site.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably with the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
- Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions.
- Two (2) years of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.

- Ability to pass a background check.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
- Valid Illinois Driver's License.
- Ability to obtain pesticide/herbicide applicator’s license within 6 months of employment.
- Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis.
- Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds.
- Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
- Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.

The Historic Sites Division of the Office of Land Management oversees 57 Historic Sites, Monuments, and Memorials. OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.
