Essential Function 1

Coordinates, develops, supervises, and implements the Lincoln’s Challenge Academy curriculum, including academic, vocational, and life skills.

  • Ensures compliance with state accreditation standards and prepares as well as submits student academic awards and scholarship recommendations. 
  • Instructs classes as required by staffing limitations. 

Evaluates and oversees Test of Adult Basic Education data entry into the Cadet Tracking System.

Essential Function 2

Schedules and assigns classes to instructor staff, approves instructional content of all classes, and monitors instruction periods to ensure compliance with required content and format.

  • Evaluates performance of candidates for employment and existing instructors, recommends disciplinary actions when required, and provides additional training to other LCA staff.

Essential Function 3

Coordinates with the Plans, Operations and Training Officer with input from the Deputy Director on all cadet attendance schedules, graduation schedules, and all other academic and training schedules. 

Essential Function 4

Researches and develops Lesson Reference Files including development sheets, guides, cadet advance sheets, audio/visual aids, summary sheets, reference lists, and cadet checklists. 

  • Approves examinations, identifies, requests, and manages all course materials required by cadets, instructors, and trainers

Essential Function 5

Facilitates the vocational certification programs for the Academy which include Food Handler Safety, Forklift Certification, CPR, CNA and Drivers Education programs. 

  • Coordinates all activities relating to the LCA library. 

Essential Function 6

Directs the Credit Recovery Educational track, the GED education track, Locator’s test, TABE Testing, and Constitution test.

Essential Function 7

Serves on multiple committees, including the Standards Review Board. 

  • Coordinates all aspects of Academics with other departments as required.

Essential Function 8

Serves as the proponent authority for policies, procedures and regulatory guidance associated with the functions of the Lead Instructor position. 

  • Develops policies, procedures and other guidance needed to implement and execute the duties, responsibilities and functions of this position description.

Essential Function 9

Notifies the Deputy Director of any consequential disciplinary or personal problems involving LCA cadets.

Essential Function 10

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications 1

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in education or social sciences,

Minimum Qualifications 2

Requires a Substitute Teaching Certificate recognized by the State of Illinois. 

Minimum Qualifications 3

Requires the ability to interact professionally with peers and subordinate staff.

Minimum Qualifications 4

Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. 

Minimum Qualifications 5

Ability to work with students individually or in group settings

Minimum Qualifications 6

Ability to use email and office equipment effectively.

Minimum Qualifications 7

Requires ability to communicate and instruct cadets. 

Minimum Qualifications 8

Requires working knowledge of classroom procedures and how to instruct cadets. 

Minimum Qualifications 9

Requires elementary knowledge of behavior patterns and modification techniques of cadets. 

Minimum Qualifications 10

A background in reading or mathematics is highly preferred. 

Preferred Qualifications 1

Master’s Degree in education or social sciences.  ​​​​​​​

Preferred Qualifications 2

Active Illinois 6-12 Teaching Certificate. 

Preferred Qualifications 3

Ability to certify program of instruction through the State Board of Education.

Employment Condition 1

Requires the ability to pass a DoD background investigation and obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) prior to hire or transfer.

Employment Condition 2

Requires a valid driver’s license in the appropriate classification as required by law.
