Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Reimbursement Officer I for the Treatment and Detention Facility located in Rushville, Illinois to perform investigations relating to financial responsibility of residents, their estates and their legally responsible relatives. Serves as Medicare part A and B Coordinator. Reviews and approves account adjustments.  Prepares correspondence used to expedite the collection of funds. Serves as a liaison with officials handling probate and civil cases.  Recommends and, after approval, implements policy, method, and procedure revisions as a result of section staff studies.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Performs investigations relating to financial responsibility of residents, their estates and their legally responsible relatives.
  2. Serves as Medicare Part A and B Coordinator.
  3. Reviews and approves account adjustments which include increases, decreases, cancellation of charges, unapplied payments, credit balances, prorating charges when total liability exceeds maximum charges and computing charges based on life expectancy.
  4. Prepares letters, subpoenas, memorandums and legal documents used to expedite the collection of funds.
  5. Serves as a liaison with officials handling probate and civil cases involving departmental accounts.
  6. Recommends and, after approval, implements policy, method, and procedure revisions as a result of section staff studies.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with courses in accounting, economics or business administration, preferably including courses in insurance, estate and probate law.
  2. Requires one year of work experience in the reimbursement field.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires ability to analyze records, accounts, forms and legal documents to ascertain financial condition, completeness, accuracy and sufficiency in compliance with State laws and departmental rules and regulations.
  2. Requires ability to therapeutically interact with residents in a 24/7 residential facility for Sexually Violent Persons.
  3. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  4. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
  5. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
