Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Security Director for the Treatment and Detention Facility located in Rushville, Illinois to direct the development, implementation and monitoring of program plans, policies, procedures, and administrative directives. The incumbent will plan, direct, and manage the Residential Security Unit. Directs investigations into unusual incidents, violations of agency rules, complaints, criminal violations, etc. Verifies that accreditation and certification are retained for program areas by administering the accreditation and certification programs which includes the submission of applications.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as the Security Director for the Treatment and Detention Facility.

  • Manages assigned administrative, clinical, and programmatic areas at the facility.

  • Serves as full-line supervisor.

  • Serves as member of facility and statewide committees and groups such as the Executive Council, Quality Management Council, Medical Staff Organization, etc.

  • Manages facility-wide projects and work teams that conceive, develop, and implement procedures and practices to promote an improved and integrated network of services to persons served at the Treatment and Detention Facility (TDF).

  • Directs investigations into unusual incidents, violations of agency rules, complaints, criminal violations, etc.

  • Verifies that accreditation and certification are retained for program areas by administering the accreditation and certification programs which includes the submission of applications.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college.

  • Requires four (4) years progressively responsible administrative experience in the fields of law enforcement, corrections, or in-patient sex offender treatment facility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree. 
  • Four (4) years of professional experience planning, directing, and managing a Security program. 
  • Four (4) years of professional experience working with the court systems and applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Three (3) years of professional supervisory experience assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and/or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff, preparing, and signing performance evaluations and approving time off. 
  • Three (3) years of professional experience working with State standards and regulations relative to residential care and treatment programs.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience developing strategic plans, long and short-term goals.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience interpreting, recommending, designing and implementing staffing plans for a public or private organization.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.

  • Requires the ability to work on-call, after business hours and weekends.

  • Requires basic proficiency in the use of a personal computer including utilizing Microsoft Office Software, including Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Word.
