SITE TECHNICIAN II (UMP)

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 at Hennepin Canal Parkway State Park. This position will assist with improvement projects to grounds, operate large or specialized equipment, operate 10-ton, 2-ton and/or 1-ton trucks with air brakes, shovel and plow snow, perform semi-skilled work associated with the building trades to include concrete, carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical and air conditioning. The Hennepin Canal State Trail is an ideal destination for a relaxing day of picnicking, hiking, biking, fishing and old fa​shioned​ family fun.  Constructed from 1892 to 1907, the Hennepin Canal played an important role in U.S. history and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Hennepin was the first American canal built of concrete without stone cut facings. Although the Hennepin enjoyed limited success as a commercial and industrial waterway, its construction involved a number of engineering innovations, and its waterway, locks, aqueducts and adjoining towpath continue to provide a beautiful recreational resource. We welcome interested applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today. 

Essential Functions

• Under direct supervision, participates in semi-skilled work in the maintenance and operation of the Hennepin Canal Parkway and its satellites (Mautino SF&WA, Andalusia Waterfowl Area, Bradford Pheasant Area).
• Assists with the operation of the sites.
• Assists in implementing safety and security at the site.
• Performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
• Cleans restrooms and buildings.
• Serves as Lead Worker.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
• Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions.
• Two (2) years of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.
