Position Overview

Are you interested in exploring a career in accounting and bringing your skills to a dynamic team? We are seeking a candidate with six months of experience utilizing accounting techniques and public or private business accounting procedures. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have at least four collegiate semester hours of accounting coursework. If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you!

Essential Functions

  • Performs review of accounting books, reports, records, documents, statements, and other financial information of the Agency. Reviews cash requests. Analyzes and tracks various state and federal grant funded programs. Ensures routing financial reports and documents are submitted to the Department in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with federal and state regulations as well as departmental policies and procedures.
  • Reviews invoice requests and works with program staff to assign the proper funding sources, obligation numbers, and grant numbers to all requisitions, invoices, etc. for the expenses of the agency.
  • Participates in monthly reconciliations of Agency records as requested by the Comptroller’s office. Prepares for review any corrective documents for either review and submission to the Comptroller or to the Bureau Chief for changes within the accounting system.
  • Researches, develops, drafts, and implements financial expenditure reporting to comply federal and state regulations. Develops and researches special projects as requested by the supervisor.
  • Tracks invoices and contracts coming into Business Services as well as reviews for completeness and accuracy.
  • Processes cash receipt functions including receiving and preparing the deposit of checks and preparing the cash draws for review and approval.
  • Performs other duties, as required, or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college and completion of an approved training course OR three years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers six months of experience utilizing accounting techniques.
  • Prefers six months of experience utilizing state or non-state accounting procedures.
  • .Prefers six months of experience utilizing Microsoft Excel or similar software.
  • Prefers at least four (4) collegiate semester hours of accounting coursework

There are three categories of UMP titles: 1) certificate titles which require passing a written proficiency exam; 2) credential titles which require the possession of a specified college degree and/or licensure; and 3) dual titles for which a certificate may be earned by following either the certificate or credential pathway.
