Job Overview
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Director, is seeking to hire an individual to serve as an Accountant, serves as an Expenditure Control accountant, independently performs professional accounting and auditing duties The ideal candidate for this position will be organized, detailed, and possess the ability to adapt to change in a collaborative, fast paced environment. The ideal candidate will also need to be able to communicate effectively verbally, electronically and in writing with both internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Functions
- Receives, verifies and posts financial information related to Invoices for contractual and grant agreement reviews
which includes: - Receives, verifies, and processes job orders and work orders;
- Serves as Fiscal Travel Liaison;
- Independently performs professional accounting and auditing duties as it relates to voucher processing:
- Performs other duties as assigned or required, which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated
above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in
business administration and accounting or four years of technical accounting experience. - This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- Prefers one (1) years of experience working with SAP/ERP programs.
- Prefers elementary knowledge of professional accounting and auditing theory, principles, methods and procedures.
- Prefers elementary knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations relating to state or non-state accounting or auditing
procedures. - Prefers elementary knowledge of office methods, procedures, standard office accounting machines and equipment.
- Prefers the ability to perform detailed work involving the application of accounting theory to routine accounting or auditing
problems. - Prefers the ability to evaluate accounting problems of moderate difficulty, and to analyze and interpret less complex
accounting records and reports. - Prefers the ability to perform detailed work involving written or numerical data and to make arithmetical calculations rapidly
and accurately, either manually or by machine. - Prefers the ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the public.
Specialized Skills (Used for certain BU Employees only)
- Requires 1 year of experience working with SAP/ERP programs.
Conditions of Employment

- Requires the ability to travel with occasional overnight stays.
