Job Overview
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Director/Chief of Staff, Chief Financial Officer
(CFO) Finance Section, Accounting and Cash Management/Fees, is seeking to hire an individual to
serve as an Accountant, independently performs professional accounting and auditing duties. The ideal
candidate for this position will be organized, detailed, and possess the ability to adapt to change in a
collaborative, fast paced environment. The ideal candidate will also need to be able to communicate
effectively verbally, electronically and in writing with both internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Functions
- Independently performs complex professional accounting duties for the Director/Chief of Staff, Chief Financial
Officer (CFO) Finance Section, Accounting and Cash Management/Fees; - Performs professional accounting duties;
- Pursues the collection of overdue fees;
- Assists Cash Management Unit staff with opening mail, processing cash receipts and researching unknown cash
receipts as assigned or directed. - Compiles and maintains budgetary reporting information;
- Perform other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in
business administration and accounting or four years of technical accounting experience. - Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency
tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- Prefers elementary knowledge of professional accounting and auditing theory, principles, methods, and procedures.
- Prefers elementary knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations relating to state or non-state accounting or auditing
procedures. - Prefers elementary knowledge of office methods, procedures, standard office accounting machines and equipment.
- Prefers ability to perform detailed work involving the application of accounting theory to routine accounting or auditing
problems. - Prefers ability to evaluate accounting problems of moderate difficulty and to analyze and interpret less complex accounting
records and reports. - Prefers ability to perform detailed work involving written or numerical data and to make arithmetical calculations rapidly and
accurately, either manually or by machine. - Prefers ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the public.
- Prefers the ability to operate a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel software.

- Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including
