The Illinois State Police is seeking an energetic individual to fill an Accountant role with the Office of the Director Division of Finance. The ideal candidate will have experience with financial reports and expenditures. Also, this position works closely with grant applications and preparing budget projections. Essential Functions

  • Performs technical accounting work in maintaining a complex, complete set of general account books by fund for grants, interagency agreements, and contracts with private sector commercial enterprises.
  • Reviews and verifies officer activity for grants, interagency agreements and contracts with private sector commercial enterprises.
  • Prepares comprehensive accounting reports summarizing expenditures and statistics resulting from “hireback” programs.
  • Assists Asset Forfeiture Section with accounts receivable by preparing a deposit of funds received and posting into Just Ware ready for check to allow fund disbursement to respective agencies.
  • Posts manual journal entries from Receipt Deposit Transmittal’s (RDTs) into Statewide Accounting System.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting or four years of technical accounting experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers one (1) year of professional accounting and auditing theory, principles, methods and procedures.
  • Prefers one (1) year of experience with the of the laws, rules, and regulations relating to state or non-state accounting or auditing procedures.
  • Prefers one (1) year professional experience of office methods, procedures, standard office accounting machines and equipment.
  • Prefers one (1) year professional experience in performing detailed work involving the application of accounting theory to routine accounting or auditing problems.
  • Prefers one (1) year professional experience in evaluating accounting problems of moderate difficulty and to analyze and interpret less complex accounting records and reports.
  • Prefers one (1) year professional experience in performing detailed work involving written or numerical data and to make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately, either manually or by machine.
  • Prefers one (1) year professional experience in establishing and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the public.
