Position Overview
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Director, is seeking to hire an individual to serve as an Accountant Advanced, under general direction of the Expenditure Control Unit, serves as an accountant advanced, independently performing complex professional accounting and auditing duties that involve monitoring, tracking, processing, and quality assurance of the Agency’s fee billings including, account receivable balances. Independently ensures all reporting requirements related to accounts receivable information are met on a timely basis. Serves as Liaison to Bureau/Division staff, Agency management and external entities providing guidance and technical assistance external entities.

Essential Functions
- Independently receives reviews audits and posts a variety of technical Complex professional Fianacial information and financial documents to SAP-ERP including voucher and invoice information verifies adjusts and reconciles any financial discrepancies with vouchers and invoices.
- Downloads and audits financial data/information utilized to maintain technical complex spreadsheets.
- Ensures encumbrances have been obligated assesses and substantiates obligation balances are adequate to process invoices.
- Assigns account codes to invoices and travel vouchers obtains necessary SAP/ERP information to process payments.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years college, with courses in business administration and accounting.
- Requires two years of professional experience in accounting, external auditing, budgetary planning and control or public accounting.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- Prefers extensive knowledge of accounting and auditing theory principles methods and of laws procedures.
- Prefers extensive knowledge of laws rules and regulations relating to state or non -state accounting or auditing procedures.
- Prefers working knowledge of office methods procedures standard office accounting machines and equipment.
- Prefers ability to prepare comprehensive accounting reports.
- Prefers ability to determine violations and noncompliance with the law and to detect and explain significant irregularities.
- Prefers ability to review detailed work to make including written or numerical data and calculations rapidly and accurately.
- Prefers skill and ability to evaluate to analyze more difficult accounting problems and interpret more complex accounting records.
- Prefers ability to relationships establish and maintain satisfactory working to deal tactfully with controversial problems.
- Prefers the ability to utilize a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word Access and Excel software.
