Position Overview:
The Illinois State Police (ISP) is seeking to fill the role of Accountant. This position supports ISP grant operations by maintaining detailed fund‑level accounting records using Excel and SAP, providing guidance on proper grant accounting practices, and preparing analytical reports for both grantee and grantor activities. The position assists divisions with grant draw support, helps ensure compliance with federal and state grant requirements, and contributes to developing and reviewing Corrective Action Plans. Essential Functions
- Utilizes a combination of excel files and SAP accounting software to maintain a complex, complete set of general accounting books by fund for grants.
- Offers guidance to ISP divisions regarding proper grant accounting.
- Gathers, analyzes, and prepares various reports related to grans for both agency grantee and grantor.
- Provides grant draw support to ISP divisions as needed.
- Assist in ensuring Agency-wide compliance with Federal and State grant requirements.
- Assist in reviewing and preparing Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) for grants.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years college, with courses in business administration and accounting or four years of technical accounting experience.
*Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers two (2) years of accounting experience.
- Prefers one (1) year of experience preparing accounting reports.
- Prefers one (1) year of experience reconciling accounting records.
- Prefers one (1) year of experience using System Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP) accounting software.
- Prefers demonstrated knowledge of 2 CFR 200 and/or State of Illinois Grant Accountability and Transparency Act (GATA).
- Prefers intermediate level of expertise using Adobe Professional, Microsoft Word and Excel.
Conditions of Employment
- Must successfully satisfy Illinois State Police background investigation.
- Must pass Illinois State Police drug screening.
