Position Overview

This position is in the Bureau of Marketing, Promotion & Grants. The mission of the bureau is to expand Illinois domestic and international markets by providing marketing assistance to food and agricultural companies. The bureau also provides essential price and sale information of the grain & livestock markets to assist in the marketing and distribution of farm commodities.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Works with a market reporter in analyzing market data, i.e. grain markets and livestock auctions.
  2. Prepares weekly livestock statistical summaries utilizing USDA directives and official procedures and submits reports.
  3. Works with market reporter in contacting grain dealers, processors, and brokers to collect grain data,price, movement, and volume of trade.
  4. Works with a makret reporter in releasing grain market infromation by radio broadcast, prepares weekly statistical report on grain, grain stock and feedstuff.
  5. Assists with the check-off programs enacted through legislaton;during referendums, makes sure all eligible votes have ballots; tabulates voting results.
  6. Works with marketing representatives to coordinate marketing programs including recruiting and gathering information for company database, i.e. food and agricultural product programs designed to promote Illinois food, livestock, grain, and agricultural commodities both domestically and internationally including those mandated by the state.
  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowlege, skill, & mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college.
  2. Requires coursework in agriculture, agriculture marketing, agricultural economics, and/or general marketing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Requires elementary knowledge of the principles and practices involved in marketing Illinois agricultural products.
  2. Requires elementary knowledge of computer operation, word processing and spreadsheet software packages.
  3. Requires elementary knowledge and understanding of grain and livestock terminology.
  4. Requires elementary knowledge of market reporting terminology. of ag commodity production, marketing, price fluctiation & price advantages. 
  5. Requires ability to collect and communicate market news information.
  6. Requires ability to express market information clearly and concisely, in oral and written form.
  7. Requires ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with agricultural businesses, groups and individuals.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires some travel.
