Position Overview
This position is responsible for coordinating and managing the Division of Aeronautics Landing Area Certification Program, reviewing and processing applications for the landing facility, conducting legal research, scheduling public notifications and hearings, creating summaries and analyses of hearings, tracking status of certifications, managing the billing and compliance Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) 5010 Airport Safety Data Program contract, and assisting with safety seminars.
Essential Functions
- Provides the Bureau Chief Aviation Safety and Education with prompt and accurate information regarding applicants’ proposals for landing facilities.
- Ensures proper coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Flight Safety Coordinators, Division of Aeronautics, Office of Chief Counsel, other departmental personnel, and local zoning authorities.
- Prepares legal notices and orders for publication.
- Schedules appropriate notifications, orders, and public hearings.
- Prepares certificates of approval for landing facilities for adoption by the department.
- Assists with planning and preparation of safety seminars.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
- Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of a bachelor's degree majoring in Aviation Management or Aviation Safety Management. OR completion of two years of college PLUS one year of experience working with aviation regulations and procedures, assisting with safety inspections, assisting with a safety program, or coordinating safety and communications procedures, or a combination thereof; OR five years of experience working with aviation regulations and procedures, assisting with safety inspections, assisting with a safety program, or coordinating safety and communications procedures, or a combination thereof.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel and Word.
- Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with coworkers, agency officials, and the public.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to make presentations to the public.
- Knowledge of FAA Part 107 Drone License and/or FAA Private Pilot License requirements and responsibilities.
