Position Overview
As an Apparel/Dry Goods Specialist III for the Logistics Bureau within the Division of Academy and Training, under direction, utilizes professional tailoring principles and techniques to reconstruct clothing items that are found to be in non-serviceable condition but salvageable, consistent with proper Department standards. Ensures the proper storage and maintenance of uniforms and accessories to attain and maintain an accurate inventory count. Provides professional advice and consultation to the Department’s administrators on specifications for and the purchase of new uniforms. Upon receipt of sample items from successful bidders, performs those tests necessary to ensure items meet minimum standards according to those specifications established by the Department. Blow down the boiler daily and add chemicals for proper operation and log such maintenance. Assists with answering incoming calls and directs those calls to the appropriate personnel; takes messages when personnel are unavailable; assists with incoming visitors and directs them to appropriate personnel. Performs other duties as assigned or required as enumerated in the duties above.

Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
- Requires three years of journey level experience in the tailoring trade or requires six years of progressively responsible experience in apparel or dry goods patterning, sewing, altering, or mending of fabrics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers two years of experience of tailoring operations and procedures.
- Prefers one year of experience of fiber composition, wool grade quality, ounces per yard, thread count per inch, warp filling, breaking strength by grab method, double rum abrasion test, random tumbling and piling tests.
- Prefers one year of experience to prepare requisitions and keep records.
Conditions of Employment
- Ability to pass the Illinois State Police background check, drug test and fingerprinting.
- Ability and skill in the use and operation of the tools and equipment of the trade, including cutting and fitting wearing apparel.
