Essential Functions
- Under administrative direction, serves as the Advanced Specialist and Technical Lead for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) supporting the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDoR), providing technical expertise and procedural understanding in the highly complex program aspects of DB2 database management software, SQL Server and data modeling tools to maintain application systems.
- Provides technical assistance and advice to application development staff and management for DB2 and SQL Server.
- Monitors the performance and use of database and data base designs for the application systems implemented at IDOR and coordinates required data base performance analysis and tuning for improved performance.
- Develops and maintains programs, procedures, macros, and projects to enhance the handling, reconstruction and administration of the database, data modeling and generator products for use by both the Database Technical Support and applications projects.
- Evaluates technical benefits and impacts of new releases of assigned products including database, database tools, and data modeling.
- Serves as lead worker.
- Coordinates and/or conducts training and education for various application development staff in the capabilities, utilization, and interaction of the assigned products, such as database and data modeling.
- Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology field by continuing education through meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with courses in management information systems, data processing, telecommunications or directly related information technology field.
- Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in management information systems, data processing or telecommunications in a public or business organization.
Specialized Skills
- Requires three (3) years of professional experience in designing, developing, testing, and implementing information systems.
- Requires three (3) years of professional experience in the internal workings of data base management products and backup/recovery products which may include, but not limited to DB2 and SQL Server.
- Requires three (3) years of professional experience installing, migrating, and tuning relational data base environments.
- Requires three (3) years of professional experience in project coordination and management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years of professional experience in designing, developing, testing, and implementing information systems.
- Three (3) years of professional experience in the internal workings of data base management products and backup/recovery products which may include, but not limited to DB2 and SQL Server.
- Three (3) years of professional experience installing, migrating, and tuning relational data base environments.
- Three (3) years of professional experience in project coordination and management.
- Three (3) years of lead worker or supervisory experience.
- Three (3) years of experience working with mainframe, network and web environment supporting products.
- Ability to develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with agency officials, associates, vendors, and clients both within and outside of the agency.
- Developed verbal and written communication skills to present technical information with clarity and precision.
