About the position

Under immediate supervision, performs non-skilled general cleaning and maintenance of the Illinois State Police Academy classrooms, housing areas, offices, common areas and the buildings of the Pawnee Training Facility. Travels in the performance of these duties.

Job Responsibilities

40% 1. Cleans and maintains an assigned area of square footage in the Illinois State Police Academy and the Pawnee Training Facility. Perfonns daily housekeeping which includes vacuuming carpets, dusting, and emptying waste baskets; cleaning and disinfecting restrooms; restocking towels, tissue paper, and cups; refilling soap dispensers; washing mirrors, windows, sills, and fixtures; and collecting and hauling trash. Travels in the performance of these duties.

 

25% 2. Applies and/or mixes chemicals to mop; strip, seal, and wax floors. Cleans floors through the use of equipment such as walk behind floor scrubbers and buffers.

 

10% 3. Performs manual building and grounds functions which include seeding, mowing, planting, shrub trimming, raking, and snow and ice removal.

 

5% 4. Takes physical inventory of janitorial supplies, linen, furnishings, equipment, and other property items. Compares physical count or inventory tag with master inventory sheet.

 

5% 5.  Adjusts thennostats for energy control programs; completes "work orders" on building and furniture damage; reports burned out light bulbs; inspects locks to ensure they are properly secured in assigned areas.

 

5% 6. Provides guidance and direction regarding the Academy facilities to new employees and in-house students. Reports any observed emergency situations, e.g., fire alanns, severe weather warnings, emergency phone calls, and alerts students/sleeping residents accordingly.

 

5% 7. Sets up furniture, office equipment, and supplies in rooms. This includes setting up, lifting, moving, and/or taking down tables and chairs in classrooms and meeting rooms for programs and moving beds in housing areas.

 

5% 8. Other duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
  • Requires elementary knowledge of the use and care of janitorial cleaning equipment ( e.g., buffing machine, mop, broom), which may include exposure to certain chemicals.
  • Requires elementary knowledge of grounds maintenance equipment (e.g., tractor lawn mower, string trimmer, shovel).
  • Requires elementary knowledge of grounds/building maintenance and building cleaning methods.

 

Physical Requirements

Requires ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull items weighing 50 pounds, bend, and crawl.

Employment Conditions

  • Successfully pass a background check.
  • Successfully pass a drug screen.
  • Valid and current driver's license.
  • Ability to travel.
