Position Overview

In this position you will be traveling and performing a variety of building, mechanical and grounds work at the ISP Academy and the Pawnee Training Facility including mechanical work at the Quartermaster. Additionally, you will be maintaining and performing general repairs of all Academy equipment, and facilities heating and air conditioning systems. You will be assisting with maintenance of the grounds at the Academy and Pawnee Training Facility as well as maintaining the Academy and Pawnee Training Facility parking. You will be performing basic electrical repairs to Academy and Pawnee Training Facility equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Maintains and performs general repairs of all Academy and Pawnee Training Facility equipment.
  • Assists with maintenance of facilities' heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Assists with maintenance of the grounds at the Academy and Pawnee Training Facility.
  • Maintains the Academy and Pawnee Training Facility parking lots.
  • Performs basic electrical repairs to Academy equipment.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school plus one (1) year of maintenance work experience preferably associated with the building and mechanical trades and/or heavy equipment operation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year experience working with construction and maintenance tools, equipment and materials.
  • One (1) year experience working with one or more of the building and mechanical trades.
  • Two (2) years’ experience using hand and power tools, operating heavy equipment or performing semiskilled manual work in a safe manner.
  • One (1) year experience working with chemicals for lawn and building care.
  • One (1) year experience following oral and/or written instruction including blueprints and other diagrams.

Employment Conditions

  • Successfully pass the Illinois State Police background investigation.
  • Successfully pass the Illinois State Police drug screen.
  • Must be able to safely operate a forklift and scissor lift.
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, and push and/or pull items weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
