The Clerical Trainee class has been identified as subject to provisions of the Personnel Code 20 ILCS 415/17b, according to which suitable positions at state agencies may be identified and included in the Disabled Workers Training Program (DWTP) and are thereby reserved for the employment and training of individuals with disabilities. Qualified participants in the program are authorized to work at least 20 hours per week, and the training program duration may be extended up to a maximum of 72 months to allow for the program goals to be achieved and the incumbent to become eligible for promotion to an appropriate full-time position.
The actual duration of the DWTP training period is dependent upon the desirable requirements of the target title and the percentage of a full-time equivalent work schedule that the incumbent works as a trainee. Individuals who successfully complete a trainee appointment are eligible for promotion to the target title without further examination.

POSITION SUMMARY
Illinois Central Management is seeking an organized, professional, and energetic individual to serve as Clerical Trainee. Under direction, this position will perform complex, specialized clerical services for the Recruitment & Retention Division at CMS. The position will answer phones, greet visitors, maintain files, perform research, register for outreach events, use various computer applications to process reports, reviews data for accuracy, and perform general clerical functions. They will provide excellent customer service, be detail-oriented, organized, and possess the ability to communicate to persons at all levels of the organization. POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Under immediate supervision, for a period of six to twenty-four months, receives on-the-job training to gain experience in the maintenance of supplies and reports, and processing of routine travel vouchers, and assists with researching recruitment events within a specific area of the Central Management Services, Bureau of Personnel/Recruitment & Retention Division

Receives training on keyboarding and/or composing of simple letters, tables, records, reports and other material in accordance with detailed instructions.

Scans documents for storage and/or shredding with accompanying transmittals.

Receives on-the-job training utilizing CMS technology and office equipment in the performance of duties.

Receives training in organizing supply closets and document storage areas.

Receives training in the opening, date stamping and routing of incoming mail.

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires no previous experience.
- Requires a verified disability, as recognized by the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAA).
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
- Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
