We are hiring a Cashier/Payment Center Technician I (Account Technician I) for our Document Control & Deposit (DCD) Division located in Springfield IL. This position is responsible for performing cashiering functions and providing customer service to taxpayers with regard to tax filing procedures, payment transactions, sale of various commodity items, and issuing receipts. Essential Functions
- Under general supervision, performs specialized cashiering tasks within the Springfield Payment Center, focusing on immediate customer service.
- Processes and/or allocates tax documents and remittances.
- Assists section supervisor in overall operation of section including matters pertaining to scheduling deadlines.
- Keeps a current and accurate inventory of supplies on hand, ordering supplies when needed to keep the area stocked.
- Utilizes a personal computer in accordance with established Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) and Division procedures.
- Attends and participates in section staff meetings to learn of new or revised processing procedures.
- Assigned to different work areas within the Program Area on a limited basis, either to address production backlogs, meet priority deadlines, or adapt to the introduction of new legislation or programs.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college and completion of an approved training course -OR- three years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this class.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience applying accounting methods and techniques.
- Two (2) years of experience working in a customer service field which involves cashiering functions.
- Two (2) years of experience balancing and reconciling accounts.
- One (1) year of experience reviewing basic tax documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Two (2) years of experience performing quality review to detect errors in production output.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check.
- Requires ability to push and pull a cart to deliver tubs to other work areas.
- Requires the ability to lift and move tubs of work above shoulder level to place on or remove from shelves.
- Requires the ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
- This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Requires the ability to use and secure a state issued mobile device, e.g., cellular phone, laptop computer, tablet, etc.
