Essential Functions
- Conducts laboratory analysis of cannabis and cannabis products
- Prepares and obtains extracts from cannabis and cannabis products using wet chemistry laboratory techniques involving complex mixtures and matrices.
- Records data, observations, and calculations accurately in an electronic laboratory notebook.
- Calibrates, maintains, and performs quality control experiments on the laboratory instrumentation.
- Uses laboratory software for sample receipt/tracking/instrumental data collection.
- Travels to assist with the collection and transporting of samples from growers, infusers and laboratories as directed.
- Researches and develops improvements to analytical methods and procedures.
- Gives expert testimony in court or enforcement hearings concerning procedures, complex instrumentation, analytical results, and the complicated, involved interpretation of data obtained from the tests.
- Participates in the laboratory proficiency testing program, and successfully completes an annual examination.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires completion of four years of college, including at least 32 semester hours in chemistry from a recognized college or university, supplemented by three years' professional experience in the practice of analytical chemistry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of analytical chemistry and modern laboratory methods, procedures, materials, and equipment.
- Prefers extensive knowledge of pertinent state and federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Prefers working knowledge of physics, biochemistry and related sciences.
- Prefers experience with the responsibility for extreme accuracy in conducting difficult analyses, to make recommendations based upon findings and to prepare technical scientific reports of same.
- Prefers experience in interpreting applicable state and federal legislation.
- Prefers experience with performing independent research and to devise new methods of testing.
- Prefers experience in repairing and calibrating complex, sophisticated laboratory equipment.
- Prefers experience with assigning, directing and reviewing work of subordinate professional staff.

- Requires a valid driver's license and the ability to frequently travel statewide.
