The Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) is seeking Data Processing Assistants for its Data Entry Division.  The Data Entry Division is responsible for performing manual data capture functions to input information from tax documents and tax payments.  The Data Processing Assistants are responsible for independently transcribing data from varied taxpayer source documents; following processing procedures to enter and verify material for projects and jobs of a specialized nature; and providing assistance as needed to less experienced staff.  The ideal candidate for this position is good at following directions, has working knowledge of basic mathematics, and has the ability to compile data for logs and reports.  This position requires the ability to key a minimum of 8,300 keystrokes per hour (KPH).

Job Responsibilities

  • Under direct supervision, independently transcribes data from varied taxpayer source documents to a Key Multi-Media Data Entry System.
  • Enters and verifies material for projects and jobs of a specialized nature required by processing procedures or as directed by management.
  • Assists supervisor by providing guidance and assistance to new data processing assistants to resolve machine or format problems.
  • Attends training on a routine basis to stay current with processing/policy changes and data entry rules.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school supplemented by one year’s previous related experience such as is typically gained at the Data Processing Operator level.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check.
  • Requires the ability to lift and carry boxes of tax documents weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to keyboard 8,300 keystrokes per hour (KPH).

Work Hours:  7:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday
