Then consider working for the Illinois Department of Revenue. We are hiring three Data Processing Technicians for our Data Entry Division located in Springfield IL. This position is responsible for ensuring appropriate labels are affixed to files and batches of work; using a handheld scanner to ensure that correct items are included in batches of work; and delivering tubs of work weighing up to 50 pounds. Essential Functions
- Under general supervision, responsible for carrying out difficult data entry duties in the Exceptions Processing and Document Control Section that require interpreting data and correcting or entering the appropriate codes or summaries of information to be keyed using the designated software.
- Picks up completed batches of source documents from other areas within Account Processing and from vendors.
- Initiates the transfer of data to GenTax for further processing to meet deadlines.
- Identifies potential procedural and/or processing problems with designated data entry systems and functions.
- Keys batches of work per supervisor direction or as daily work allows in order to complete special projects and address potential backlog.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school, supplemented by one year of related data processing experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience working with data entry and processing.
- One (1) year of experience interpreting data and correcting or entering the appropriate codes or summaries of information to be keyed into a computer system.
- One (1) year of experience identifying system errors and correcting accordingly.
- One (1) year of experience tracking and logging work for processing.
- One (1) year of experience working with production control procedures.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check.
- This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Requires ability to load tubs of work on cart and push/pulls cart to deliver to other areas within building.
- Requires ability to lift and carry work above shoulder level to place on or remove from shelves.
- Requires the ability to use and secure a state issued mobile device, e.g., cellular phone, laptop computer, tablet, etc.
