Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a detailed oriented person to serve as an Accountant in the Fixed Assets/Property Control Unit. The selected person will perform a variety of professional accounting duties in the maintenance of property control records and financial reporting procedures. This position will also establish and maintain inventory accounts, reconcile reports, and maintain appropriate property control and fixed assets systems. Essential Functions

  • Maintains monthly automated automotive cost reports.
  • Assists with administrative aspects of fleet management.
  • Maintains property control records for the Vehicle Unit.
  • Answers highly technical and complex inquiries regarding accounting requirements and practices for Property Control and Fixed Assets.
  • Generates property transfer documents for vehicles and inputs data into the Statewide Accounting System
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting or four (4) years of technical accounting experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and/or similar type of computer programs.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience applying accounting principles to the reconciliation of various reports.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience auditing fuel invoices and receipts.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in motor pool operations management.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience using a Statewide Accounting System.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in vehicle and/or property inventory control.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience tracking assets for a medium to large size organization (500 or more employees).
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with vehicles involved in accidents and following up with all parties involved in accidents to ensure a resolution.

  • Requires a valid, appropriate driver’s license and the ability to travel.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC background check.
