Position Overview
The Public Safety Shared Services Benefits Division would like to announce an opening for a Benefits Coordinator for the Illinois Department of Corrections and other supported agencies located in Springfield, Illinois. The Benefits Division is seeking to hire a motivated and detail-oriented individual with the appropriate experience and skills who will perform various insurance and retirement functions for the agency. This role provides guidance and counsel to employees related to group insurance and retirement benefits. We encourage all qualified individuals who are interested in serving in this role to apply.
Essential Functions
- Serves as a professional human resources coordinator of Group Insurance and Retirement benefits for Public Safety Shared Services Agencies.
- Serves as liaison to State Employee Retirement Systems (SERS), Central Management Services (CMS), and assigned Facilities or Agencies and their employees.
- Counsels employees and field staff on leave of absence issues, premium billings, and options.
- Counsels field staff on retirement issues and changes.
- Provides professional assistance to supervisor and higher-level human resources staff regarding group insurance, deferred compensation, or retirement issues.
- Maintains accurate records of insurance and retirement data processed.
- Participates in the annual audit for group insurance percentage determination, reviews time records, doc-044s, cms-2s, and FMLA/VESSA approvals to ensure compliance with Group Insurance policy and to accurately determine unprotected dockage for the purposes of calculating part-time percentage.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college and one (1) year of professional experience, preferably in Human Resources, or satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Prefers at least two (2) years of human resources experience in a group insurance program.

Prefers at least two (2) years of experience administering retirement benefits.

Prefers at least two (2) years of leaves of absence experience in a group insurance program.

Prefers at least one (1) year of professional work experience in positions that were required to maintain confidentiality.

Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience communicating in oral and written form with internal and external partners.

Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience with Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint or Webex.
Employment Conditions
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
