Position Overview
The Manager of Internal Communications for the Department of Corrections (DOC) oversees the creation and distribution of audio, video, photography, and presentations to keep staff informed and engaged. This role involves collaborating with various facilities to develop content, producing an agency-wide newsletter, and assisting with the annual report for employees and stakeholders. Essential Functions
- Serves as the Manager of Internal Communications for Department of Corrections (DOC).
- Performs primary controlling impact on the end results and outputs of the program.
- Collaborates with Staff Wellness Coordinator on employee engagement.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
- Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in communications, journalism, public relations, government relations, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers four (4) or more years of professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, internal communications, or journalism for a public or private organization.
- Prefers three (3) or more years of professional experience in interacting with and communicating in oral and written form within a large organization (500 or more employees).
- Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience writing and editing content such as text, images, and video to build connections with a large audience.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience authoring and editing content in digital media platforms.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience in simplifying complex messages into easy-to-understand content.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience developing marketing and public education materials, including but not limited to posters, brochures, public service announcements and flyers.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
- Requires the ability to work outside normal working hours.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
