Position Overview

As the Behavioral Health Coordinator for the Illinois Department of Corrections, you will oversee the substance use treatment and aftercare services provided for the individuals served by the Department. These opportunities are designed to assist individuals in making a successful transition from a corrections environment to the community by helping individuals to develop and enhance their personal and social competencies, ultimately equipping them to be a productive member of society. Essential Functions

  • Serves as subject matter expert of substance abuse programming in adult facilities, Impact Incarceration Programs, and Community Adult Transitional Centers.
  • Serves as expert consultant and resource person to agency and facility administrators and the Governor’s office on substance abuse education and treatment, program design and implementation, development of requests for proposals, and orientation and coordination of contractual staff in provisions of such services.
  • Serves as primary liaison between Agencies, Department of Human Services, Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, and other state, local, and community agencies.
  • Develops, writes, implements, and monitors federal grants for substance abuse programming.
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Prepares the annual Addiction Recovery Management Services Unit (ARMSU) Report regarding program utilization, data summaries, demographics, service hours provided, number of individuals in custody served.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to a master's degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, administration of criminal justice, social work, and/or behavioral sciences.
  • Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience preferably in counseling, administration of criminal justice, and/or addictions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers a State of Illinois recognized clinical license in one of the following: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, (LCSW) Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), or a Certified alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC).
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working with monitoring contracts with substance use treatment services.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience monitoring and implementing grant funding.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience conducting quality assurance/improvement studies.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience involving evaluation and/or treatment involving individuals with substance use disorders.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years preparing reports and data summaries relative to substance use disorders treatment services.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience training staff.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience writing professional documents and/or reports.
  • Prefers certification as a Certified Reciprocal Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CRADC).

Condition of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires the ability to carry and use a state issued cell phone and laptop.
