Position Overview
Illinois Department of Corrections is looking to hire an Account Technician I for Contract Management at Shared Services. The ideal candidate is an individual who can multitask and prioritize daily duties, performing technical accounting assistance to field staff in the creation, posting, tracking and amending of all Center obligations for Federal and State programs. In addition, they will prepare and distribute obligation reports, maintain and audit database to track contract expiration to allow timely bid procedures, contract renewal and amendments and verify procurement business cases approval. Essential Functions
- Provides technical accounting assistance to field staff in the creation, posting, tracking, and amending of all Center obligations for Federal and State programs.
- Prepares and distributes obligation reports.
- Maintains and audits database to track contract expiration to allow for timely bid procedures, contract renewal and amendment.
- Verifies that procurement business cases have been approved for all purchases over $10,000.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and completion of an approved training course OR three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
**Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience maintaining accounting records.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience auditing various fiscal reports.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience with contract obligations.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience interpreting finance laws and applying them appropriately to the contract obligation process.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience tracking vendor contracts for a large agency (more than 500 employees) to allow for timely bid procedures and renewals.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook and/or similar type of computer programs.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience utilizing an automated accounting system.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience using accounting systems.

- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
