Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a professional Accountant in it’s Public Safety Shared Services Center Contract Management Unit. The person selected for this position will establish contract obligation documents, review and determine contract obligation amounts, facilitate financial transactions, ensure invoices can be processed be the Department, maintain spreadsheets on obligated funds, and provide financial analyses on obligated contract amounts. Essential Functions
- Establishes and maintains contract obligation documents.
- Performs continual analysis of obligated amounts so that all the invoices can be processed in a timely manner.
- Serves as working supervisor.
- Reviews source documents to ensure accurate information is entered into the accounting system.
- Develops functional process for establishing and monitoring transactions requiring obligations.
- Works to ensure that all policies and procedures regarding contract oversight of obligated amounts is followed.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties listed above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college with courses in business administration and accounting or four (4) years of technical accounting experience.
** Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook and/or similar type of computer programs.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with office methods, procedures, standard office accounting machines and equipment.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience evaluating accounting problems of moderate difficulty such as rectifying discrepancies between financial system reports and developing a plan to resolve the issue.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience working with multiple projects and serving as a lead worker and/or supervisor over staff.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience performing detailed work involving application of accounting theory to routine accounting or auditing problems such as with assets and liabilities.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience interpreting finance laws and applying them appropriately to the contract obligation process.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience using a Statewide Accounting System.
